About
My name is Tosha Duncan Buker, and I was born with an obsession for horses and no means to pursue them. I didn’t come from a “horse family” or wealthy lineage. I quickly learned to replace wishing my circumstances were different with working to make them change. I did the tasks no one else wanted to do, put in the hours that others shied away from, rode the horses no one would touch, and slowly built a world where doors kept opening for me in the equestrian world. I learned invaluable lessons, made mistakes, and experienced success.
I’ve successfully trained and competed horses across many disciplines, including three-day eventing, endurance, dressage, jumpers, and gymkhana. I’ve taken part in many aspects of the equine industry such as retraining off the track thoroughbreds, breeding farm operations and foal imprinting, young horse starting, sales and marketing, buying and selling, teaching, training, catch riding, experience as a working student, groom, and stable hand. There is hardly a position in this industry I haven’t occupied.
Outside of the horse world I obtained my AA in English, my BS in Environmental Studies, and a professional certification in Land Use and Environmental Planning. My academic background refined my ability to evaluate research critically, synthesize information across disciplines, and present it in a way that is both accessible and actionable. These skills shape every resource I produce, ensuring they are grounded in thoughtful analysis.
Sierra Nevada Equestrian is the culmination of my lifetime passion, dedication, and genuine love for horses. The knowledge, experience, and structured approach I've developed over decades are now distilled into practical, accessible tools for you.
So you can manage with clarity, respond with composure, and always put the horse first.

I firmly believe the journey of learning is never finished, and am always striving to expand my knowledge. Recently I have:
-
Successfully completed an Equine Nutrition course from Rutgers University, May 2025.
-
Attended a Barefoot Trimming and Composite Shoe Gluing Clinic, April 2025.
-
Continuing education in trimming, hoof care, and gluing.
